Is it too late to go back to get a MBA/JD for a 31 year old?

I am 30 years old and I am thinking of going back to school next year to get a MBA/JD from any of the top schools out there. I have a degree in Accounting and International Business Management and a Masters in Accountancy. I have 3 kids and a stay at home wife.

My greatest interest is the law in today’s business world, and I would like to work in international banking some day because of my language skills and my exposure to overseas experience.

I made some choices after graduation not to join the GMAC banking group in London but to stay in the states and work from my state because of my wife’s proximity to her family. I felt that was a mistake as I could have furthered my career internationally and really grown.

I’ve been working at a software company as their Accountant for the past 5 years and I feel like I am not getting anywhere in life. We’ve decided as a family for me to get back into school and I want to get a JD at the same time with a MBA.

So I have been really wondering if it’s even worth getting a MBA/JD with 3 kids and a mortgage, now with 4 more years of school. I make around $55k/year living in UT, but if I went to London I could be making2-3 times more (trust me I regret that decision, but it’s for the family)

Any suggestions or help will be awesome, thanks guys.

Go back to school. You are not too old. However, I strongly recommend that you do some research on whether you really need both degrees. It also costs 2 or 3 times more to live in London than in Utah!

  2. If you can afford it, go for it.
An MBA/JD really opens up doors for you and education’s always a good investment.
Why don’t you try looking into scholarships, there’s a lot of stuff out there. Some companies even pay for their employees to continue their education, its good for them for you to have an MBA/JD.
